I am a Melbourne based graphic designer and visual artist, paying tribute to the iconic Penguin book classics.
I found inspiration for this body of work while working for an international publishing house. The iconic Penguin books design, by Jan Tschichold in 1947, with its coloured bands at the top and bottom are synonymous with Penguin and to this day still hold a certain charm.
Books have been used as subject matter by artists over the years, including replications of Penguin Book covers and spines, paying homage to the iconic Penguin brand.
Inspired by the likes of James McQueen, the Connor Brothers and Harland Miller, my paintings include the playful intervention of corporate sayings, clients customised phrases and amusing fictitious book titles, conveying a meaning other than that of Tschichold.
